What is Creative Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is about being fully present and aware of how you are in any given moment without judgement. Creative Mindfulness is being mindful while you are doing a creative activity. What you create is not important. It is more about the process. It is about becoming aware of how you are at any given moment. What are your thoughts? Do you feel any sensations in your body? How do you feel? It's becoming aware of this and welcoming whatever arises with kindness and without judgement. It is really interesting to really become aware of how we are and to accept it exactly as it is. Sometimes we can be very hard on ourselves and not even realise. Doing a creative activity can also bring you into a calm 'flow' state. The creative activities we do in the class are easy and can be done by anyone even if you think you are not creative. If you have a strong inner critic, this is an excellent way to learn how to foster more kindness towards yourself. Once you practice it in the class you can bring it into other areas of your life. There is a mindfulness meditation at the beginning of the class and then a creative exercise such as colouring, collage, play dough, jar decorating, using stencils. making mandalas and more incorporating the principles of mindfulness. Creative mindfulness is for everyone - absolute beginners who have never tried mindfulness or created a thing since school, or those who are more experienced and are looking to try mindfulness and creativity in a new way.
